The Charles

16x20, oil on canvas. My good friend Charles Weisman let me paint him this weekend, this is one of two paintings i did of him. the other one is still in the works.

The not so still life.

we had a guest artist in class today (im going to edit the post as soon as i get his name.) he was demonstrating alla prima still life painting. he travels to different schools doing this kind of stuff all over the country. i should have brought my sketchbook and just listened and watched but i came to class ready to paint, and thats what happened.

i tried my best to capture him painting the kettle, little vase, and lemon on a green cloth. what was really cool about this guy is he involved the class in the painting, he actually had us sit where hes sitting in the painting and has us paint for him. I was the first volunteer, but it made painting him so much harder. This is also the first successful attempt ive made at painting my classroom. the jungle of easels doesnt really appear in its full glory because i left all of them out to make it less cluttered and give it a perspective that wouldnt confuse people.

it isnt the best, but its a step in the right direction.
